Just the other week I mixed/opened for Sha Na Na in an old time theatre (ten vocal mics and rock & roll, yahoo!) and was talking to "Jocko" their drummer/performer, (who has always been really generous to me, by the way.)
Anyway, we talked about this same subject. We also talked about "breaking a leg." Evidently this has to do with the old fashioned way of taking a bow, where one bends his knee for the audience rather than bending at the waist. It's wishing for someone to have a good performance, hence the need to take a bow or "break a leg."
I always thought it had to do with sarcasm and superstition. The things you learn while waiting for the stage to be "struck."
Here's hoping you break a leg,
Domenic
: If reading a text stage plot, and guitar is stage left, is it left from the muso point of view or left looking from foh?
: I'm guessing it's looking AT the stage, not looking FROM the stage.
: Just looking for confirmation of this.
