Marshall ValveState emulated output buzz problem

Hi,

Our electric guitarist uses a Marshall ATV100 amp that has an emulated output that is supposed to model the sound of a 4 X 12 Marshall cabinet. We tried to use this output (as opposed to the mic on the speaker we normally use) and got a pretty good hum/buzz from his amp (not through the PA). The amp's manual says that output is for connection to high impedance inputs (>20kohm) so I hooked it up via a DI box. Ground lift in or out made no difference. Does anyone know if that output is designed to be used in some other way? Is it a simple 1/4" mono unbalanced plug, or is it TRS balanced in which case I should skip the DI box? Anyway, if anyone has any hints on the proper use of that output on the ATV 100 amp, or on troubleshooting that buzz we got it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,
Loren Jones
