: : If you wire a mono jack to Male XLR using pin 1 - screen, pins 2 and 3 Hot. It allows you to connect an unbalanced out to a balanced input on a console (people seem to want to do this with radio mic receivers).

: : Although I know that the incoming signal seems louder when connected in this way, I've always told my customers that there's no advantage in doing this (you have to trim the signal anyway!). However those who have tried it tell me that it sounds better.
