A few years ago I saw an advertisment in one of the sound magazines, Prosound Sound News, I think. the product was called ...Micguard.....there were 2 versions and one was for Shure SM 57's. I bought a few and have used them ever since then. No more broken 57's by drummers. The micguards have cracked but saved the mic. Retail at the time was $20.00 each but You can get them for $10.00 each now, I think, if there are any left around. If anybody is interested I think I still may have the phone number of the guy who invented them. He should have a bunch left. The product didn't catch on however. I hear no change in drum sound and get really good drum sounds using them. And if there is a little bit of difference in sound, for those of you who are real picky, I will sacrifice a little quality to protect my mics from "wild swinging" dummers. LOL, my major instrument is drums. FWIW

: : has anyone figured out a way tighten the plastic loose cap on an sm57?
: Way back when I worked at a few clubs around Atlanta I saw a good way to protect the 57 cap. At 688 club they took a broken drum stick and taped it to the body of the mic and let it hang over the cap so that the stick took most of the abuse from the drummers. Seem to work as they had a bunch of wild drummers playing that club and I didn't see any flying 57 caps.......
