No kidding! I had a couple of them that I had gaffed over a year ago due to the "rattle". Just last week I was doing a controlled test of all my mics and wondered why the first 57 sounded so bad, then the next one w/ gaff sounded the same. Needless to say, after pulling off the tape the low end bounced back. Makes me feel pretty stupid it took that long to find.
I too would love to hear of a good solution.
