Hi guys;
A freind told me about a post asking about the
new unity loudspeakers, specifically the one's at
Joe's in chicago. Since my company did the install
there I figured I'd chime in. Most of the technical data can
be found on their webnsite. www.servodrive.com
Basically it is a large horn with multiple drivers
configured so that the signal produced at the mouth
is correct both in time and phase(this is done passively in the speaker. No controller needed). In my humble
opinion the box is very smooth across its useble
frequency range and has excellant directivity since
it is a large horn(My rta read almost flat with no eq and the acoustics in that room are horrendous). It also has excellant voice
intelligeability even at high spl without getting
harsh or shrill (I have been there on a few occasions
when the system was run over 120 db and my ears didn't
ring at the end of the night. I just had my hearing
checked and I know I'm not going deaf.). They also
couple really nice with no audible comb filtering.
The system at Joe's has five of the vfl's. Two each
in left and right clusters and one center. The low
end is taken care of by 4 bass tech 7's. I hope this
helps the inquiree. Please feel free to ask any
specific questions about the box or the install.
thanks for the soap box

p.s. I hear they are coming out with a
trap box and a wedge using the same
technology. I can't wait.
