Fletcher from Pennywise is one of those guys that will destroy thousands of dollars of whatever he feels like, will turn around and pull a wad of cash out of his pocket, and pay for it. I've never met anyone quite like him. I would never get in his way when he's upset. I'm surprised he didn't go after you at that second show, he's relentless ;-) His size combined with that drunken temper is absolutley frightning.

: I told this on the chat room one night, but I should share it with everybody.

: The first time I worked with Pennywise I was taken by surprise at the end of the show when they brought the whole croud up on stage. I lost several mics, broke a 421 clip and some other misc gear. They paid for it.

: The second time I pulled the backup mics as the croud headed up there, minimal loss. The guitar player tried to incite the band with a chant against me, but he had no mic so it didn't go far.

: The third time was a doozy. Three bands, Pansy Division was first, they were great, Blink 182 next, they were great.
: Toward the end of the Pennywise set I go up behind the stack. It is an 8' stage, but I figure better safe than sorry. The guitar player, big surly dude, does a downstage GTR solo, at the end he whirls around to get back to his vocal mic for the chorus. As he spins he hits the mic stand and knocks the 58 off and across his tuning pegs. No problem, he keeps playing, hes a professional. He tries to gently bob the neck of the guitar to get the 58 off only it goes the wrong direction and wraps around it again. Still no problem, he isn't singing but he is still playing and trying to jiggle the 58 loose. It wraps around again. Now he is frustrated and starts shaking it. It is a tangled mess. He stops playing (the bassist and drummer play on) takes the guitar off and keeps shaking it. Soon he is swinging it around. The mic cord is still wraped around the stand so the stand starts flying through the air. The drummer is laughing and playing, when he isn't ducking as the mic stand flies over his head. The ME is ducking behing monitor world, the bass player is playing from behind his rig, and the singer is hiding behind the stack with me.

: Finally he swings it so hard that the tripod/bottom half of the mic stand sepperates from the boom/top half of the mic stand and flies through the air, over the bass rig/bass player back stage. (Try pulling a mic stand apart). The rest of the band is dying with laughter. The guitarist is bright red with rage to the top of his head and the tips of his fingers. He slams the guitar/mic/mic cord/mic stand tangle down on the stage. The mic and the pickups make a huge bang and he stomps off the stage and on the tour bus.

: The lights come up and the croud (about 2.5K) looks like a huge fish mart. They have been moshing their brains out all night and now there is real violence/rage and they don't know what to do. The file out in total silence with their mouths open. One of the funniest things I have ever seen.

: The FOH/tour manager, Limo, paid me $75 for the mic stand.

: Blink 182 was vidioing the show from backstage. I would love to have a copy of it. (I'll bet Loveline would too).

: Jack
