: Interesting observation, Dave. Yes, I'll look at the 6dB button in the Shootout. If the Yammie I get and the Yammie you tested both have less headroom at 6dB then we have a Grand Total of two units that show this characteristic. Woo Hoo. That's the problem with noting flaws or faults, your sample size is so small. Great specs, however, are not prone to false positives. If the Shootout shows a couple of incredible EQs with overall great specs then even a sample size of one is conclusive.

===================
A sample size of one should be adequate to identify design issues like headroom (Yamaha 6dB situation?). It may not be adequate to evaluate tolerance related issues like accuracy of frequency centers. The odds of encountering a unit that is incorrectly assembled will be pretty low but drawing conclusions about typical accuracy from small samples could be questionable.
As I think I mentioned in another post, headroom or signal handling capability of GECs needs to be tested in both boost and cut modes. Just like a console, it would be instructive to know what part of the signal path clips first. For example, if fader boost (cut?) comes out of headroom, this should be considered when setting input levels. I wouldn't expect all designs to be the same. Just like in console design headroom considerations often conflict with noise floor optimization.
