: : Something like the old Orban Paragraph? ;-) It was a parametric, but the cut and boost were on faders as opposed to knobs.
: Whoa! What a weird beast. And pretty much what I was thinking about. Except that the knobs and sliders are kind of hard to figure out at a glance. What's the deal with the twin knobs on one shaft? PITA.
: Actually, I was thinking of a semi-parametric EQ with fixed 'Q', making the front panel easier to configure for fast on-the-fly adjustment.

========================
Many years ago I pondered a design using a pair of slide pots mounted horizontally with a vertical slide pot connecting the two horizontal's wipers. Using the horizontals to set filter center frequency (which usually requires a dual anyway), vertical for boost cut, and just for jollies, mount a rotary to the wiper of the vertical for Q and you have a "graphic parametric", with one knob control of boost/cut, freq, and bandwidth. FWIW I never figured out a clever solution to dealing with significant freq overlap and a decent cosmetic treatment of a faceplate for this monster, but it would be cool....
FWIW, I have since seen joy sticks that get you most of the way there but still probably a little too unconventional for a serious product.
